Hosted at the beautiful TARAgram Orchha, Aarohan, the inaugural session of TARAgram Yatra 2024, set the stage for an engaging three-day journey of sustainability, innovation, and community-driven impact in Bundelkhand. The event began with an Inaugural Address by Dr. Ashok Khosla, Chairman & Founder of the Development Alternatives Group. Dr. Khosla emphasized the essence of TARAgram Yatra as a platform for mutual learning and teaching, urging Yatris to actively exchange insights throughout the journey. Referring to DA as fellow Yatris, he highlighted the organization’s commitment to continuous learning and innovation.

This was followed by a Welcome Address by Ms. Shaila Sam, Associate Vice President and Head of Communications and Impact at DA. She warmly greeted the Yatris, setting a tone of collaboration and discovery for the Yatra. She elaborated on the work that DA has been doing to address three global challenges namely Resource Efficiency & Circular Economy, Climate Resilience & Ecosystem Restoration and Inclusive & Rural Livelihood.

Each Yatri was welcomed with a traditional garland and tilak and received a thoughtfully curated Yatri Kit, including workbooks, informative materials for the thematic yatras, and eco-friendly sippers to reinforce the event’s commitment to sustainability and reduce plastic use.

Zeenat Niazi, Chief Advisor on Circular Economy & Climate Change, shared an inspiring narrative on the inception of TARAgram Yatra in 2010 and its evolution across 10 impactful editions. She elaborated on this year’s theme, “Investing in the Local and Green,” and how it aligns with the global agenda for sustainability and grassroots resilience.

The thematic yatras were introduced by DA experts. Mohak Gupta and Pankaj Khanna provided insights into the Resources Yatra. Dr. Swayam Prabha Das presented the Climate Yatra, and Sudhir Sah with Ekta Kashyap discussed the Enterprise Yatra. The session, moderated by Nipun Kaushik, fostered engaging conversations about the transformative programs the Yatris would witness.

Adding a vibrant touch to the session, Radio Bundelkhand RJ Varsha captivated the audience by showcasing how the second community radio station in India, established in 2008, has amplified DA’s impact. She emphasized its role in spreading awareness about climate-resilient practices to over 150 villages, sparking meaningful interactions about the power of grassroots climate communication.

With enriching discussions, inspiring addresses, and a focus on collaboration, Aarohan laid a strong foundation for an immersive exploration of Bundelkhand, inviting Yatris to contribute to a shared vision for a resilient and sustainable future.
